Designing a Unique Diver Watch: The Development Story of RIOMDO RD‑601

Over years working in watch OEM business, I have reviewed countless diver watch projects. Most diver‑style watches follow very similar design language: plain black or blue dials, sharp rugged markings, purely focused on sport‑tool aesthetics. After seeing so many identical designs, it is easy to get tired of the same look.

Our team kept asking ourselves: can we build a diver‑inspired mechanical watch with solid performance, yet bring some artistic character to the dial? That is how the RIOMDO RD‑601 floral diver watch came into existence.

We had internal debates at the early design phase. Some team members argued that diver watches should keep minimal, clean styling. Adding floral patterns on the dial may look too fancy and fail to attract buyers. But our market research showed a shift. Many customers shopping for sport watches no longer only care about extreme tool‑grade diving specs. They want timepieces suitable for office days, casual outings and weekend trips.

100‑meter water resistance is more than enough for daily scenarios: swimming, rainy days and everyday water contact.

Tuning the floral dial took several rounds of sample revisions. We adjusted line thickness, pattern density and blue shade five times in total. Too dark, and the floral details merge into the background. Too light, and it loses the deep‑sea blue diver‑watch vibe. The final deep‑blue base brings layered floral engraving. Under bright light, every leaf and blossom shows clear detail; in dim conditions, it remains calm and not overly flashy.

We did not cut corners on hardware. The watch adopts solid stainless‑steel case, 46 mm dial diameter with 12 mm case thickness. Sapphire crystal glass protects the dial against daily scratches. The onion‑shaped crown delivers smooth winding experience.

It keeps classic diver‑watch features: unidirectional rotating timing bezel, see‑through display case‑back to view the automatic mechanical movement, luminous hands & hour markers for low‑light readability, plus a practical date window at 6 o’clock.

Instead of smooth rubber, we selected textured rubber straps. The grainy surface sits comfortably on wrist, reduces stickiness when sweating during sports. Multiple finish options are available: steel‑blue, rubber‑blue, steel‑black and rubber‑black.
